# From order to child orders

> When a customer splits items across addresses in the cart and pays, a child order is created for each address. How the flow works and how to read parent and child orders.

## How an order flows

**1. The customer clicks Ship to multiple addresses in the cart**

The allocation screen opens when the customer clicks the button on the cart page.

**2. The customer sets addresses, items and details**

The customer chooses addresses, assigns items and quantities to each, and sets the delivery date and time, noshi, message card and gift bag. To see the screens, go to [Getting started](https://docs.bouquet-inc.com/en/apps/multigifts/overview.md).

**3. The customer pays once at checkout**

Clicking the checkout button opens Shopify's checkout. Shipping is the total of the rates calculated for each address, shown on one line as **配送料（お届け先N件）** (Shipping, N addresses). The customer pays only once.

**4. A child order is created for each address**

After payment, that order becomes the **parent order**, and the app automatically creates a **child order** for each address.

In the orders list, parent and child orders appear like this.

## Parent order

The order the customer paid for. Sales, payments and refunds are handled on the parent order.

| Item | Details |
| - | - |
| Tag | **複数配送** (multiple shipping) is added |
| Items | The cart items are added as they are, with the tax rates from your product settings. Each line has properties such as the recipient's name and address, so you can tell which address it's for |
| Shipping | The total of the rates for each address, shown as 配送料（お届け先N件） |
| Inventory | Reserved on the parent order at payment |
| Fulfillment | Put **on hold**. Fulfillment is done from the child orders, so don't release the hold on the parent order |
| Shipping address | The customer's address (the default address of a logged-in customer) or the first recipient. It appears on receipts and the order confirmation email and isn't used for shipping |

## Child orders

One order per address, created for fulfillment.

| Item | Details |
| - | - |
| Order number | The parent order number plus a sequence number (for parent #1033: #1033-1, #1033-2) |
| Tags | **分割配送** (split shipment) and **親注文:#1033** (parent order number) are added |
| Items | Only the items and quantities assigned to that address |
| Amount | Created as ¥0 and paid. Sales are recorded on the parent order, so they aren't counted twice |
| Shipping address | The recipient's address |
| Customer | The same customer as the parent order |
| Notes and additional details | The delivery date and time, noshi, message card and gift bag |

Check each recipient's options under **メモ** (Notes) and **追加詳細** (Additional details) in the right column of the child order.

| Additional detail | Meaning |
| - | - |
| 配送希望日・配送希望時間 | Requested delivery date and time slot |
| のし種類・のし掛け方・のし名入れ | Noshi type (such as 御祝), outer or inner noshi (外のし・内のし), and the name on the noshi |
| カードデザイン・カードタイトル・カードメッセージ | Message card design, title and message |
| 手提げ袋 | Gift bag, shown as あり (yes) when requested |
| `mg_split_name`・`mg_split_parent_order`・`mg_split_sequence` | Child order number, parent order number, and the address's position in the order |

Options the customer didn't set aren't shown.

> In the orders list, filter by the tag 分割配送 to see only child orders, or by 親注文:#1033 to see only the child orders created from one order.
